VOLUNTEER AT THE THUNDER BAY ART GALLERY

Our volunteers are a diverse group of individuals who provide essential support in virtually all aspects of the Gallery’s operations. From behind-the-scenes duties to public reception, our volunteers help to ensure that everything runs smoothly. Some volunteers have been with us for decades, while others are barely a decade in age!

Interested in becoming a volunteer?

Depending on your interests, skills and schedule, there are a variety of ways to get involved!

  • ART CLASS ASSISTANT: Art class assistants aid visiting instructors and encourage participants to explore their own creative process in a supportive atmosphere.
Our assistants aim to ensure that participants of all ages have a unique and fulfilling art class experience.
  • BOARD OF DIRECTORS: For information on running for the Board of Directors, make sure to tick the option of Board of Director Volunteer position provided for you in the application form below (“Click to Volunteer”).
  • DOCENT (GALLERY GUIDE): Our gallery guides are also called docents, a Latin derivative meaning “to teach.”
Docents are integral to our education programs at the Gallery. Acting as hands-on assistance during workshops and leading tours through the exhibits are the main activities of our docents.
  • FRONT DESK ATTENDANT: Our front desk attendants welcome visitors into the Gallery space, invite them to ask questions about current exhibits and help us with administrative tasks. As the first point of contact for the Gallery, whether on the telephone or in the person, we appreciate the friendly and resourceful support delivered by our front desk attendants.
  • SPECIAL EVENTS VOLUNTEER: Most of the Gallery’s special events are interactive.
We aim to bring awareness to the community about the Gallery’s unique mandate and offerings while raising essential funds to support related programming. Our volunteers often help with every step of the event organizing process, from inspiring new ideas to taking tickets at the door. Some of our most popular annual special events include the Garden Tour, the Christmas House Tour, and an annual Art Auction.

We welcome potential volunteers of all ages and backgrounds with suitable time and skills to share.

Please complete the “Click to Volunteer” form below, ensure to hit submit and our volunteer coordinator will provide you with additional information.
