City of Thunder Bay – Recreation and Culture Volunteer Opportunities

The City hosts a variety of performances, exhibitions, festivals and events year-round. From Provincial and National sporting championships to Canada Day, the Kite Festival and SnowDay, Thunder Bay loves to celebrate the best of music, culture and sport.

The Recreation & Culture Division is responsible for running many programs and special events in our community. Join the team to have a rewarding and fun volunteer experience.

Volunteers will receive on-site orientation or training before the beginning of each assignment.

Students interested in Adventurers Camp, Chippewa Summer Camps or Playgrounds are required to complete the Teens ‘n Training Course.

  • Teens ‘n Training
    This training course is a 7-hour session that focuses on child development, work safety awareness and the roles and responsibilities of a volunteer. Teens who are Grade 8 graduates entering high school up to age 17 years are eligible.
    Teens ‘n Training is being offered yearly sometime in June from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm at the Kinsmen Centre, 609 James St. N. Registration is $30.

In order to volunteer with the City of Thunder Bay, applicants must be a minimum of 13 years old and must have completed Grade 8.
