The Thunder Bay Multicultural Association wishes to introduce the Together Project program (a project of Tides Canada).
What does this project entail?
The Together Project connects refugee newcomers and Canadians to build stronger, more integrated communities. We match “Welcome Groups” of ideally five or more volunteers with Government-Assisted Refugee newcomers and families for social support.
Common areas of assistance include access to:
- Language training,
- Health and dental care,
- Public services,
Qualifications for volunteers: Persons with any kind of skill set can be part of the program. They will be able to form a group with others to create a strong mix of talent.
Examples: Professional field is an asset (business, lawyer, organizations, etc.) / People in the service field as well (police, firefighter, paramedic, customer service, retail, etc) / School System (teachers, ESL, tutors, professors, someone from board of directors) / Coaches (sports, dancing, life coaches, gyms, personal trainer, etc).
Each match is also assigned a volunteer interpreter – we call them a Cultural Ambassador – to help bridge the linguistic and cultural gap between the newcomers and their counterpart Welcome Group.
If you’re interested in volunteering as one of our Cultural Ambassador, please use the “Click to Volunteer” tab at the bottom of this page.
