Description

Help your neighbours focus on getting well, not on how they will get to treatment.

Sometimes simply getting to treatment can be difficult. If our clients can’t afford the cost of travel or are not physically well enough to use public transportation, volunteer drivers can help find a solution.
Volunteer drivers are well trained and supported in their role, and are important ambassadors for the Canadian Cancer Society. We offer flexible day-time driving opportunities based on your schedule.
We are currently significantly short on volunteer drivers who can support our clients in accessing treatment and we are seeking individuals who can commit to driving one day a week, if possible, to ensure we can provide this necessary service.

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS & SPECIFIC TASKS

  • Age required is 18+
  • Volunteer drivers are required to be non-smokers, have a clear driver’s abstract and have a clean criminal reference check (both of which are facilitated by CCS staff at no expense to you).
  • Our volunteer drivers will be tasked with picking up clients who have booked pre-arranged rides with us, bringing them to their treatment appointment and safely returning them home upon completion.
  • Volunteer drivers are given at minimum 3 business days notice before the next scheduled drive.
  • Drivers are reimbursed for kms (mileage) accumulated while driving patients to their appointments and home again.
