NorWest Community Health Centres

NorWest Community Health Centres (NWCHC) provides primary and allied health care services to people throughout the city and district of Thunder Bay. We work with individuals and families through four main sites—Thunder Bay, Kakabeka, Armstrong, and Longlac—as well as through our Mobile Health Services and numerous outreach sites.

As one of over 100 Community Health Centres (CHCs) in Ontario, NWCHC provides high quality and integrated primary health care services, fosters community development and advocates to improve health and wellbeing for vulnerable people and communities.

Our team features Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Therapists, Midwives, Dietitians, Diabetes Educators, Harm Reduction Staff, Community Health Workers, Program Assistants, and Administrative Support Staff.

Volunteers are needed for the following programs and events. 

LOCATION: THUNDER BAY

Thereoke” – Music Therapy/Karaoke

Role: To lead a group of 4-6 people through a session of karaoke as a form of music therapy

Location: Thunder Bay

Dates: Fridays, targeted start date of February 9

Time: 3:00-4:30pm

Wayfinder

Role: Situated in the reception area of NorWest CHC, volunteer will support clients by helping them book appointments online, have clients fill out social demographic survey, provide information on upcoming events, activities at the CHC

Location: Thunder Bay

Dates: Flexible, can be any weekday, 3-5 hour shift

Time: Flexible

Digital Skills for Seniors

Role: Volunteer will lead a weekly lesson with seniors on various topics around computers, using a smartphone and other digital skills

Location: Thunder Bay

Dates: Tuesdays, targeted start date of February 13

Times: 11:00AM – 12:30pm

LOCATIONS: Kakabeka Falls, Neebing, O’Connor, Kaministiqua,  Gillies Shebandowan , Nolalu and Upsala

Fly the Coop Indoor Walking Group

Role: Assist with moving tables/chairs for walking program, twice a week

Location: Kakabeka Falls

Dates: Until the end of March 31, 2024

Time: 10am – 11am, ½ hour before and after for setup

Fly the Coop Outdoor Walking Group

Role: Assist with Outdoor walking group

Location: Kakabeka Falls

Dates: April to October 2024

Time: 10am – 11am, ½ hour before and after for setup

Preference: Someone with a knowledge of pole-walking, enjoy chatting, comfortable walking for an hour, coordinating group incase Lead not here

Hybrid Virtual Yoga

Role: Assist with setting up and taking down audio/video equipment, chairs, moving tables

Location: O’Connor and Kakabeka Falls

Dates: Monday/Wednesday, until end of March 2024

Time: 10am – 12PM

Multi-Generational Histor-Tea, Games & Crafts

Role: Assist with setup/take-down of tables and chairs, craft table support, refreshment setup support in communities once every 2 months.

Location: Kakabeka Falls, Neebing, O’Connor, Kaministiqua,  Gillies Shebandowan , Nolalu and Upsala

Dates: Next one is in Neebing on January 30, 2024

Time: between 1-3pm

Talk & Tea

Role: Volunteer to assist with setup take down and support through the sessions starting in April

Location: Kakabeka Falls, Neebing, O’Connor, Kaministiqua,  Gillies Shebandowan , Nolalu and Upsala

Dates: Starting in April, once a week for 8 weeks

Time: In the afternoon
