Description

Volunteers needed for our summer Reading Tents

We are looking for volunteers in Thunder Bay to assist with our popular Reading Tents at various outdoor locations in the city including summer day camp programs, community events, and festivals. These tents run primarily on weekdays for 2-3 hours between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm and Wednesday evenings from 6:00 and 8:00 pm for the months of July and August.

The purpose of the Reading Tent program is to provide a place where children, parents and caregivers can share the joy of reading and learning. Helping children develop a love of reading is an important step in helping them become successful readers. Reading with children during the summer is especially important as it helps to reduce the ‘learning loss’ that occurs when children do not have the routines of school.

We are looking for volunteers who:

  • Possess a love of reading; read with enjoyment and enthusiasm to children
  • Are comfortable with informal learning environments and settings
  • Are able to travel to different parts of the city

Students 14+ looking to fulfill their volunteer hours are encouraged to apply. Volunteers 18+ will be required to have a Police Record Check done.

Application forms can be found online at www.frontiercollege.ca
